The service and its operator
TypeScience, trading as Insurance Answering Co, provides an AI receptionist for insurance agencies under these terms. The service answers calls as your business after you forward your number and uses the instructions you supply during onboarding and through your settings.
These terms describe the subscription and the responsibilities that come with using it. They also include the data processing terms below for information collected from callers to your business. Contact [email protected] for help with your account, setup or use of the service.
Accounts and business instructions
You provide account details and instructions about your business through onboarding and your settings. You are responsible for the accuracy of information you give the AI, including agency services, hours, intake questions, urgency criteria and the people who should receive urgent calls.
You are also responsible for your greeting and business policies. The required notices identifying the receptionist as a virtual assistant and announcing call recording remain enabled. Review your instructions when your agency's hours, staff responsibilities or routing arrangements change.
Demo and trial access
You can try the browser demo without signup before opening an account. Demo calls and chats are recorded and transcribed to display the result, so use fictional inquiries when evaluating how the receptionist handles insurance requests.
The free trial lasts 14 days and is capped at 100 minutes. A payment card is required before call forwarding goes live. The trial converts to a paid subscription only with a card on file, and we send a reminder email two days before conversion.
Monthly subscription and usage charges
The plan is $249 per month and includes 500 AI minutes. Additional usage is charged at $0.20 per extra minute, with overage minutes billed monthly. You can review usage in your dashboard while deciding which calls to forward.
Your subscription runs month to month and renews monthly until cancelled online. Billing is handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers. Review your usage alongside call records so your agency understands how it is using the receptionist.
Cancellation and a lapsed plan
You can cancel online in one click, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month. The subscription does not require a longer contract term. Keep your account details current so service communications reach your business.
If a plan lapses, calls are directed to your backup number or voicemail. Maintain that backup route and check that the person or mailbox receiving those calls is appropriate for your agency. You remain responsible for keeping a backup way for callers to reach you.
Forwarding, setup and call handling
The receptionist answers day and night once your business calls forward to it. You choose whether to forward all calls or use forwarding for no-answer, busy or after-hours calls. Setup includes a local number, a forwarding guide and a test call before going live.
The receptionist takes messages, asks intake questions and flags urgency using your instructions. It can book appointments into Google Calendar or take details for a callback. Call records are available in the dashboard, with email and app push alerts and a daily digest email.
Insurance requests and agent decisions
The receptionist collects details for your agency and leaves insurance decisions to a licensed agent. It does not quote premiums, bind coverage or tell a caller whether a policy covers a particular event. Your agency remains responsible for reviewing requests and providing advice or decisions.
Quote requests, certificate requests and policy change inquiries are intake tasks, not completed insurance transactions. A request to add a driver therefore becomes information for your agency to review. For urgent claims, instructions put the carrier's claims line first, followed by a message for the agency.
Urgent calls and emergencies
Urgent calls follow the escalation order you set through a warm transfer or a page to your on-call person. For a warm transfer, that person hears a short summary and presses 1 to accept the call. Keep the routing instructions and recipient information accurate.
The receptionist is not an emergency service or a replacement for 911. Safety scripts direct callers facing a gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm, sparks or burning smells, or flooding near electricity to get everyone out and call 911 or the utility from outside. For a fire, callers are told: "Get everyone out first, then call 911 from outside." For a medical emergency or anyone in danger, callers are told to hang up and call 911 right now. The receptionist then alerts your business.
Optional chat and lead follow-up
Website chat is available as an add-on using the same business knowledge and rules. Lead follow-up calls are a separate add-on for people who submit your web form and tick a consent box naming your business. You are responsible for the consent records supporting those follow-up calls.
Follow-up is attempted within about a minute, during 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the recipient's local time, with one attempt and one retry. Opt-outs are honored at once. The service does not offer cold calls, list dialing or calls to purchased leads.
Acceptable use
Illegal use, cold calling, robocalling, impersonation and harassment are prohibited. Use the service for your business's inbound intake and the consent-based follow-up described in these terms. Do not instruct the receptionist to make coverage decisions or present itself as someone it is not.
Healthcare use involving protected health information is not permitted. The receptionist's insurance agency role does not make it a healthcare service. We may suspend service for abuse, including use that conflicts with these acceptable use conditions.
AI mistakes and customer review
The AI can make mistakes, and you are responsible for reviewing summaries and maintaining a backup way to be reached. Check requests that need staff action, including quote inquiries, policy changes, urgent messages and certificate requests, before treating them as resolved.
Use the test call and browser demo to assess how the receptionist handles the instructions you provide. The service is provided as is. It does not replace your agency's review of the caller's needs or the decisions and follow-up your staff must provide.
Data processing for customer calls
Your business decides what caller information is collected and why, and we process it on your behalf to deliver the service. This includes call audio, recordings, transcripts, summaries and caller numbers. Your instructions determine intake questions and how the receptionist routes the resulting message.
Calls, website and demo chats, recordings, transcripts and summaries of trial and customer accounts may be reviewed by authorized staff for quality, support and abuse prevention. Access is limited to those purposes.
The service uses providers for hosting and storage, telephone carriers, AI voice and text processing, payment processing, email delivery and analytics. Our AI model provider, OpenAI, does not use our API data to train its models by default. We never sell personal information or use callers' data for our own marketing.
Recording retention and privacy requests
Your business chooses a recording retention period of 30 or 90 days, after which recordings are deleted. Transcripts and summaries remain while the account is open and are deleted within 30 days after it closes or on request.
Callers may ask your business or contact us about their information. Requests for access, correction, deletion or opt-out can be emailed to [email protected]. Our privacy policy explains account information, demo records, analytics and the handling of caller information in more detail.
Liability, governing law and changes
Liability under these terms is capped at the fees paid in the prior 12 months. The service is provided as is, and governing law is California. Review these conditions alongside your responsibility to check summaries and keep a backup contact route.
We notify customers of changes to these terms by email. Contact [email protected] with questions about the service or these conditions. Request a free trial and use the interactive receptionist demo to hear the greeting and test a fictional agency request.
